Cameron Archer explains Sheffield United move from Aston Villa and fresh Premier League belief

The striker made the decision to leave Villa Park after a long-association with the Midlands’ club and has made an instant impact at Bramall Lane

Cameron Archer admits he ‘had a feeling’ that Sheffield United would be a good move for him and it’s certainly proven to be the case so far in his early days. The 21-year-old made the big decision to leave Aston Villa, the club he had joined as a boy, last month and he is not looking back.

He got his career at Bramall Lane off to the perfect start with the first Premier League goal of his career on his debut against Everton. He can also claim the second with his effort coming back off the post and going in via Jordan Pickford.

That his first came after a good understanding with fellow striker Oli McBurnie and attacking midfielder Gus Hamer had a hand in both provided plenty of optimism for the season ahead. Sheffield United were not the only club in for his services this summer.

There were a host of teams looking to lure him away from Villa Park following a prolific spell on loan at Middlesbrough, but there was something about United that made Archer opt for Bramall Lane.

“Premier League football, passionate fans, a big club,” he said as he explained the reasons behind his decision. “You just have that feeling when a club is interested, I had that feeling about Sheffield United.”

A goal on your debut is what every striker aims for and with it also being his first start at this level, he is hoping it has set him up nicely for a good season in front of goal.

He added: “I’m going to try and keep the club up this season, the most important thing. We don’t like to look too much into the future, take each game as it comes and keep our heads down and keep working.

“From last Saturday I have that belief now, I can use that and keep my head down, keep working hard.”

If his debut is anything to go by, Sheffield United can have plenty of Premier League belief themselves as they look to secure another season in the top flight.
