Neil Warnock rails at ‘certain elements about Stoke City’ amid Huddersfield Town exit claims

Neil Warnock’s final game as Huddersfield Town manager could be against Stoke City in the Championship this week

Neil Warnock says there are “certain elements” about Stoke City which make him want to beat the club more than anything in what is likely to be his last game as a manager.

Warnock, who was lured out of retirement in January, guided Huddersfield Town to a 2-0 win over Rotherham on Saturday but, at the age of 74, is expected to call it a day after hosting Stoke on Wednesday evening.

It is widely reported he has a difficult relationship with Huddersfield’s hierarchy following a summer takeover which included the appointment of former Stoke technical director Mark Cartwright. TalkSport claim “a mystery foreign boss” has been lined up to take his place.

But Warnock, never normally subtle, suggests he has extra motivation to stay in charge for a few more days.

“Of course I will [be here for the Stoke game], I want to win,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I want to beat Stoke, more than anything. There’s certain elements about Stoke that I’d like to beat if I’m honest.

“I’ll tell you when I’ve retired.”

Warnock has had various run-ins with Stoke over the years although he could say the same about most clubs outside the top flight. He ranted about temporary changing rooms during lockdown. In all he has gone up against the Potters on 17 occasions, winning six times, drawing six and losing five.

His long-term assistant is former Port Vale forward and Stoke diehard Ronnie Jepson.
