Bora Aydınlık takes big Hull City step forward after deadline day move from Fenerbahce

The Tigers were emphatic winners against The Cherries on Saturday

Bora Aydınlık got his first taste of action in a Hull City shirt on Saturday when he stepped off the bench in the final stages of the Tigers Under-21s’ emphatic 4-0 win over Bournemouth at the MKM Stadium.

The Turkish youngster was a deadline day arrival from Fenerbahce and travelled with Liam Rosenior’s squad to Leicester City last Saturday to watch the Tigers win 1-0 courtesy of Liam Delap’s first-half goal.

He came off the bench to replace Rocco Coyle in the 89th minute with City already 3-0 up in the blistering East Yorkshire heat, thanks to goals from Vaughn Covil, Tyrell Sellars-Fleming and Jim Simms before the shell-shocked visitors compounded an afternoon to forget with an own goal in added time.

It was also a pivotal afternoon for Covil, who took a big step in his recovery from a serious knee injury he picked up last September in a first-team game win over Coventry City.

Having impressed in the early weeks of last season following his arrival, Covil suffered what appeared an innocuous-looking injury which kept him sidelined for the best part of 12 months, but the American’s cool finish off a post just three minutes in had Conor Sellars’ men in the lead.

It was 2-0 just short of the half-hour when Simms, as he had in Covil’s strike, had a hand in the second when he teed up Sellars-Fleming to score and Simms finally got in on the act when he got his goal two minutes later.

City’s emphatic win was complete in added time when Archie Harris’s pass back to goalkeeper Cameron Plain inexplicably went under his feet and into the back of the MKM Stadium net.

The win is City’s second in their opening four games and sees them end a run of successive defeats to move up to sixth in the table, three points off leaders Sheffield United. Sellars’ side are next in action on Monday week when they travel to Crewe to face the Railwaymen at Gresty Road.
