Arsenal, Unai Emery raconte son arrivée et fixe ses objectifs | Goal.com Français

Aston Villa hoping to sign Robin Le Normand

Unai Emery has set sights on Robin Le Normand as a priority January target, as they must pay his €60 million release clause to stand a chance.

According to Fichajes, Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Robin Le Normand in the January window. Unai Emery remains unsatisfied with his defensive ranks and could urge the club to make a move for the €60 million-rated Spanish international.

Aston Villa have not started the season as they would have liked. The Midlands club finished the previous campaign on a high, but they have already endured two losses this term. The team’s leaky defence has Unai Emery scratching his head, and they may look to find a solution in the January window.

Emery’s plans suffered an early blow following two serious injuries to key players. First, Emi Buendia sustained an ACL injury, and then Tyrone Mings followed suit as he endured a similar problem on the opening weekend.

Aston Villa did manage to bring Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, but Emery still feels they need more quality at the back. Hence, the manager could look into the Spanish market for another solution and set sights on Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand.

Aston Villa had already dipped into the Spanish market during the summer window. They signed Pau Torres from Emery’s former side Villarreal, and the Spaniard has had a modest start to life. He has managed to fill in for the injured Mings, but the team have continued to leak costly goals.

Hence, the idea of Le Normand excites Emery, with the €60 million-rated Spanish international available if Villa can pay his straightforward release clause. Real Sociedad may not want to lose key personnel midway through the season.

Le Normand had mild interest from other teams, but his stocks rose recently following a debut with the Spanish national side. Incidentally, two French defenders representing La Roja featured during the international break. The €60 million-rated defender partnered with Aymeric Laporte at the back.

The right-footed defender can improve Aston Villa’s current options and become a solid capture for the club. The report insists Emery has no concerns about his €60 million release clause, as he could ask the club to pay up as he thinks Le Normand is worth the price.
