Corbin Carroll Made Diamondbacks History With Award Win
The MLB Rookie of the Year awards were announced on Monday night, for both the American and National League.
Baltimore Orioles star infielder Gunnar Henderson was chosen in the junior circuit, and Arizona Diamondbacks dynamic outfielder Corbin Carroll was chosen in the National League.
Both won unanimously, earning all 30 first-place votes in their respective league.
In the process, Carroll made franchise history.
The D-Backs have had several top players in their short history, one that started in 1998 with MLB’s most recent expansion.
However, none of them was the league’s best rookie, until Carroll came along.
He not only had some unique numbers, but also made sure his D-Backs had a postseason to remember, making it all the way to the World Series.
In the regular season, he was Ronald Acuna Jr. lite, showcasing impressive power-speed numbers and pacing his team offensively.
In 155 games and 645 plate appearances, Carroll slashed a cool .285/.362/.506 with a .868 OPS at 23 years old.
He had 30 doubles, 25 home runs, and 54 stolen bases, while being caught just five times.
He also tripled 10 times and scored 116 runs in a really impressive season.
He also earned good reviews for his defense in the outfield and performed in the postseason, with two homers, five stolen bases, and a .773 OPS.
In another year, Carroll would probably be a frontrunner for the MVP award, but with Acuna, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman putting up otherworldly numbers, that will have to wait.
The D-Backs, however, can rest easy knowing they have one of the most exciting players in baseball.
