We are delighted to announce the signing of full-back Fankaty Dabo.
The 27-year-old joins Rovers following his release from Coventry City. He spent four seasons with the Sky Blues, playing a key part in their rise from League One to a promotion-pushing Championship outfit.
In the 2019/20 season, in which Coventry won the League One title, Dabo was named as the Sky Blues’ Player of the Season and was also named in the PFA Team of the Season.
Dabo made over 130 appearances during his time at Coventry, averaging over 30 games per season. He played 31 times for the Sky Blues last season, including a sub appearance in the Championship play-off final.
The London-born defender came through the ranks at Chelsea and enjoyed loan spells at Swindon Town, Vitesse Arnhem and Sparta Rotterdam while at the Blues.
After joining Rovers, Dabo said: “I’m really excited to be here. This is a completely different challenge for me but one I’m really looking forward to.
“I’m very ambitious – I want to come here and achieve something. I never just want to play for fun, it’s about trying to win things. That’s what I’m here for.”
David Horseman added: “Fankaty is somebody who is way above the level – he’s a Championship player.
“He’s a brilliant person and an unbelievable leader. He adds power, pace and competition to the left and right side.
“He’s a really big signing and I’d like to say a massive thank you to the club for getting it done.”
Director of Football, Allan Steele, said: “We’re very excited to welcome Fankaty to the club. He brings a wealth of experience as well as a number of high quality attributes both on and off the pitch.”
