Former Middlesbrough loan star closing in on move to Premier League new boys
Aaron Ramsey impressed on loan at Middlesbrough last season
Former Middlesbrough loan star Aaron Ramsey is closing in on a move to Premier League new boys Burnley. The attacking midfielder, who impressed in the second half of last season at the Riverside after arriving on loan from Aston Villa, is poised to join the Clarets for £12m.
All parties are working to finalise a deal that is expected to include a buy-back option. One national newspaper has claimed the move has been held up as Ramsey has to agree a new deal with Villa in case he goes back. Ramsey, whose older brother Jacob is also at Villa, has not made a Premier League appearance for the club.
Aaron, a member of Villa’s 2021 Youth Cup-winning squad, was a guest at Turf Moor on Friday night as Vincent Kompany’s side lost 3-0 to reigning champions Manchester City. The Clarets romped to the Championship title last term.
Aaron moved to Boro at the end of January after a knee injury cut short his spell at Norwich City. After regaining full fitness, Ramsey showed flashes of his quality and helped improve Middlesbrough’s ability to break teams down and score goals.
The 20-year-old contributed five goals in just eight league starts as Michael Carrick steered Boro into the play-offs. He featured a grand total of 11 times for the Teessiders.
owever, Aarron missed their two-legged semi-final against Coventry due to injury. He sat-out their final six matches after picking up the knock in their comprehensive home win over Norwich City in mid-April. His absence was keenly felt versus the Sky Blues as they made it through to Wembley.
Boro have freshened up their forward options, signing Alex Gilbert, Sammy Silvera, Morgan Rogers and Emmanuel Latte Lath in the summer transfer window. There is a strong chance Middlesbrough will look to bring in further attacking reinforcements before the window slams shut on September 1, with Chuba Akpom set to move on to pastures new.
