Former Spurs manager says not a single player would get into Arsenal’s team
Tim Sherwood has insisted that not a single Tottenham Hotspur player would get into Arsenal’s starting eleven at the moment.
Spurs head into the North London derby next Sunday riding high on confidence after coming from behind to win against Sheffield United in dramatic fashion yesterday.
The result not only ensures that Ange Postecoglou’s men are unbeaten in the Premier League this season but also gives the Australian plenty of options ahead of the trip to the Emirates.
Spurs’ front line appears to be thriving, with Richarlison coming off the bench to get a goal and an assist while Manor Solomon and Dejan Kulusevski also delivered accomplished displays – the latter scoring the winning goal.
However, Arsenal undoubtedly go into the game as favourites, given the excellent home record they have in this fixture.
In fact, Mikel Arteta’s side have been picked out by many pundits as the team most likely to once again be Manchester City’s closest challengers this season.
Tim Sherwood makes bold claim about Tottenham XI
Sherwood believes that there is such a big gulf in class between the two sides at present that not a single Tottenham player would get into the Gunners’ starting eleven.
The former Spurs interim head coach said on the Tippy Tappy Football Podcast: “At the moment, there’s no one standing out to me who gets into the team. Vicario, I don’t know because I don’t know enough about him, he has started off very well.
“I was thinking Son, but who do you leave out? Saka? Martinelli? Odegaard has to be in the team, he goes in where Maddison would go in. We’ve seen Maddison have these spells at Leicester.
“He has better players around him now, so hopefully he can continue playing on a regular basis like he is and then he will have a chance. But I’m not sure where I’d fit him in at this moment because Odegaard has to be in before him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is a close shout between Maddison and Odegaard, and I personally lean towards the Spurs man. I also think Son starts upfront ahead of either Jesus or Nketiah while Porro, Udogie and Bissouma could also get into Arsenal’s starting eleven.
Based on the way they have started the season, one can perhaps even argue that Van De Ven and Vicario have a chance of getting into a combined eleven
