From Iceland to Hull – Ryan Allsop talks family, friends and football after Hull City transfer
The new Tigers signing talks to City reporter Barry Cooper about his move to the MKM Stadium
When Ryan Allsop first got the call to say Hull City were interested in signing him, his mind was already made up. He wanted to come and join what he feels is a club moving in the right direction.
The chance to work under Liam Rosenior, Justin Walker and Barry Richardson, people he knows from a career that has taken in no fewer than 14 clubs across the country and as far afield as Iceland, was an opportunity at the age of 31 he wasn’t going to pass up.
Though, by his own admission, the closer the move got to being completed the nervier he became, hoping and praying nothing would go wrong to scupper what he regards a fantastic opportunity.
Numerous incoming players have spoken about the general feeling of positivity around the MKM Stadium, and a growing sense of momentum only helped after last Saturday’s impressive 1-0 win at Leicester City, and Allsop is the latest name to be added to that particular list.
“One hundred per cent,” Allsop told Hull Live when asked about the sense of anticipation around the club. “The atmosphere around the place, the training ground, I went to the stadium the other day, just the feel, the atmosphere and the ambition that everyone is showing and where they want to get to, that played a massive part.”
Rosenior’s influence has been key throughout the summer in City attracting some big names in Jaden Philogene, Scott Twine and Liam Delap, with Allsop believing the Tigers head coach will make him a better player.
“I worked with the manager previously at Derby, Justin too, and I worked with Baz (Richardson) at Wycombe as well so they knew me well. They know my strengths, it came about from that really. I had brief conversations with them, as things escalated and as things became more serious, it became something that I was desperate to try and make happen,” he continued
