Fulham promoted back to the English Premier League - Capital Sports

Report: Fulham star ‘considering his options’ as Leeds discuss move internally

The Athletic claim Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak is ‘considering his options’ this summer amid reports Leeds are considering a summer move for the Slovakian stopper – as Leeds look to bolster their options between the sticks.

Rodak, 26, has endured a tricky spell since moving to Craven Cottage in 2019. Two promotions from the second tier, but a relegation too. He was crucial in his first season, keeping 15 clean sheets in 39 games as Fulham went up.

But Fulham replaced him in goal for the Premier League in 2020-21, and they were relegated. He won his place back in the second tier, helping Fulham win promotion again. But last summer, Fulham signed Bernd Leno from Arsenal.

It saw Rodak play seven times last term. A year on his deal, a move is likely. FLW say Leeds have internally discussed a move – alongside Rotherham’s Viktor Johansson, Preston’s Freddie Woodman and Newcastle man Karl Darlow.

Now, the report from The Athletic this week says that Rodak is ‘considering his options’ this summer with a view to a move in order to secure more game time. It may be Daniel Farke chooses to sign him at Leeds in the next few weeks.

While Rodak has two promotions from the Championship on his CV, and an impressive 34 clean sheets in 111 games in the second tier of English football – Leeds can do a lot better. Of course, Illan Meslier and Joel Robles could leave.

We need a goalkeeper and Rodak would be an adequate replacement. But there are better options on the market. Rotherham’s Player of the Season, Johansson, is superb. Darlow’s experience would be crucial in a promotion hunt.

So, while Rodak would be a solid signing and gives Leeds promotion know how from the Championship – he should only be considered if Leeds cannot bring the likes of Johansson or Darlow to Elland Road in the next few weeks.
