The Green Bay Packers signed a former 1,000-yard single-season rusher Tuesday. The Packers have needed depth in the backfield since Aaron Jones sustained a hamstring injury in Week 1. Jones returned to action in Week 4 but played limited snaps in the loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Packers were without Jones in their loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5. Jones was back to practice Monday, and he’s tracking to play the Denver Broncos coming off the bye week.

However, Jones’ absence has shown the Packers backfield has glaring issues. AJ Dillon, the Packers RB2, is averaging just three yards per carry this season. The Packers brought in a free agent who can compete for touches behind Jones.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Packers signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson.

Robinson earned All-Rookie honors in 2020 with the Jacksonville Jaguars when he put up 1,070 rushing yards. The Packers worked out Robinson two weeks ago but waited until Week 7 to sign Robinson.

Robinson spent time with the New York Jets in 2022. He’s been on the New England Patriots and New York Giants practice squads this season.
