32-year-old striker now released after PNE missed out last summer
Aris have decided to release striker Andre Gray just over a year since seemingly beating Preston North End to his signature.
The transfer window has come to an end and some may wonder if there are some free agents out there who could help PNE.
Admittedly, we’re certainly not expecting North End to make any more signings after a strong summer window.
Still, some have noticed that Aris have now decided to release striker Andre Gray.
The Greek side have announced in a press release to the national media that Gray’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
Gray has become a free agent and may now be seeking a return to English football after just one year in Greece.
PNE wanted Andre Gray last year
Ryan Lowe seemingly fancied bringing in an experienced Championship goalscorer last summer and Gray was wanted.
Alan Nixon reported back in May 2022 that PNE were looking to bring in Gray at the end of his Watford contract.
Football Insider suggested just a month later that Gray was in advanced talks to join PNE and a deal was moving closer.
However, Aris managed to win the race and lured Gray to Greece alongside fellow PNE target Moses Odubajo.
The 32-year-old hit 13 goals in 39 league games for Aris last season despite them seemingly not having an abundance of strikers right now.
Door surely closed for Gray now
PNE needed attacking signings before the transfer deadline and managed to land them.
Montenegrin international Milutin Osmajic has come in from Cadiz and provides PNE with a major boost up top.
Liam Millar has also arrived on loan from Basel and has history of playing as a striker from his Liverpool youth days.
Will Keane has started the season very well whilst Emil Riis is expected back from injury soon and Ched Evans may well be back before the end of the year.
North End aren’t exactly in the market for another striker right now and even with Gray available, we would be surprised to see PNE show an interest now.
