Huddersfield Town notebook as Kevin Nagle enjoys double response before international break
Both the Terriers and Sacramento Republic ended difficult weeks with important victories, while you can still get your Town fix in the two-week respite in the Championship season
How quickly things can turn. Kevin Nagle had faced a public dig from his own manager, Neil Warnock on Thursday afternoon; seen his other club, Sacramento Republic, fail to reclaim their place back at the top of the league later that night; and been the subject of more criticism from Terriers fans after a silent transfer deadline day.
And now? Huddersfield Town have their first win of the season – thanks in no small part to the forward signing that they actually did make this summer – and Sac Republic are back at the top of the league after both clubs claimed victory at the weekend.
We’re not sure whether or not there’s a wider lesson to impart here, and no lecture to give about giving things time or anything like that. For all we know, this is a just shaft of light in an otherwise miserable time for both clubs. But all the more reason to bask in it: the weather is nice and we’ve got no Town games for two weeks. Enjoy it.

Get your Huddersfield Town fix during the international break
Town’s B team are in action at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, as we’re definitely all calling it, on Tuesday afternoon at 1pm, with entry free of charge. The club have suggested that some first-team members may well be involved, if that tickles your fancy. If not, the B team will face Newcastle United at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Premier League Cup next Wednesday, September 13 in a 7pm kick-off; ticketing info to follow for that.
If you want something more competitive, Town Women have two games this week as they look to bounce back from losing 4-0 away to Stoke City on Sunday afternoon. First, Town Women have a mouth-watering local derby away to Halifax on Thursday night: that’s a 7:45pm kick-off at Liversedge FC’s Quaker Lane.
Huddersfield Town fans rally behind Miles for Marcus
We’ve mentioned Miles For Marcus in the notebook before, but awe are reliably informed that Town’s most recent fundraiser is proving very popular, with 75 people already signed up to take part in this year’ edition of Walk for Pounds.
On this occasion, the funds will go to the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation in honour of Marcus Stewart, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year. The sponsored walk will take in either an accessible four-mile route or a more challenging 18-mile route; either way, the walkers will begin and end at the John Smith’s Stadium, with the longer walk taking in local landmarks including Castle Hill.
I’m one of the participants signed up for the longer route, incidentally, and you can donate to my page here. Club ambassador Andy Booth has promised me he’s going to make me work for it, so please make it worthwhile. Many thanks to those of you who have already done so – you all rule.
Huddersfield Town’s international call-ups
Finally, Town have three players out on international duty over this fortnight. Right-back Brodie Spencer is back in the Northern Ireland senior squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers away to Slovenia and Kazakhstan.
Charles Ondo will be hoping to earn his first international cap at the third time of asking after once again being called up for the Equatorial Guinea squad. They face an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya. Pat Jones is meanwhile with Wales under-21s for their games against Liechtenstein and Lithuania.
