Hull City manager Liam Rosenior says his players are 'better and fitter' after their winter break — The Hull Story

Hull City boss delivers transfer update amid Jaden Philogene and Keinan Davis Aston Villa talks

The Tigers are primed for an exciting final week of the window

Hull City boss Liam Rosenior expects a busy end to the transfer window as he looks to put the finishing touches to his squad before next Friday’s deadline.

The Tigers could bring in as many as five new players ahead of the 11pm shut off next week, with a goalkeeper, midfielder, two wingers and a striker on their radar. Some departures are also expected.

Talks with Aston Villa remain ongoing over a double deal to bring Jaden Philogene and Keinan Davis to the MKM Stadium, and it’s hoped the 21-year-old could still be concluded ahead of Friday night’s home clash with Bristol City.

The deal to bring Davis to City has been agreed with Villa and it’s now down to the player to decide, given he has options elsewhere but there is a belief a move to the MKM Stadium will happen.

Rosenior remains confident the club’s extensive hard work will be rewarded in the next few days, and more new arrivals will follow to boost their hopes of promotion.

“Yes,” Rosenior told Hull Live when asked if anything was close. “There are things bubbling away and it’s been widely reported about a few players that we could be interested in.

“Hopefully, we get some good news on those really soon. I understand other people talking about it but I prefer to talk about players when they’re done, when they’re signed.

We’ve worked really hard to identify, not just in that position, or the forward position. We’ve got other things going on in the goalkeeper situation, another really exciting thing going on in the midfield position that we want to add to as well, so if we get those players in the worry and fear of the transfer window, it’ll be understood why we’ve done it this way.”

Speaking exclusively to Hull Live earlier this week, owner Acun Ilicali revealed that he hoped as many as five new arrivals would come in, and Rosenior says that’s the quantity he felt was required.

“That’s a fair number for us to be where we want to be, we need competition in every area of the pitch and at the moment there are a few talks going on with a few players that I’m really excited about, and not the ones that have been reported,” he added.

Oscar Estupinan, Ryan Longman and Ryan Woods are three players attracting interest, but Rosenior says nothing formal has yet been received.

He said: “There’s nothing close that I’ve been informed of this morning, there’s always interest in our players. If it’s right for the club – and for every player, not just in Oscar’s situation, every player in the squad, if we think it is right financially and we can reinvest then we’ll make what we think is the correct decision for the club.”
