Hull City boss issues final transfer window verdict after thrilling deadline day
The Tigers were busy shopping in the final days of the window
Liam Rosenior declared himself delighted with Hull City’s summer transfer business after a busy final day of the window saw the club add no fewer than four new players.
Tyler Morton, Jaden Philogene, James Furlong and Bora Aydınlık all arrived before Friday’s 11pm deadline to join Ryan Allsop, Jason Lokilo, Aaron Connolly, Scott Twine, Ruben Vinagre and Liam Delap taking the club’s total number of new signings to 10.
It was the capture of Philogene that perhaps created the greatest buzz, with City understood to have paid around £5m to secure his move from Premier League side Aston Villa. But Rosenior has added depth throughout his squad in a bid to spark a challenge for promotion this term.
Rosenior was keen to make big changes to his squad in his first summer window as boss, and allowed the likes of Oscar Estupinan, Xavier Simons, Ryan Longman and Ryan Woods to leave on loan while keeping in-demand defender Jacob Greaves.

“I’m so happy,” he said. “The club worked so hard, we all worked so hard. There was a point when we felt Tyler (Morton) wouldn’t come out but I’m delighted Liverpool have given us what I think will be an outstanding player and he completely suits the way that we play.
“In terms of Jaden (Philogene), it’s been one we’ve been trying to get over the line for a long time. Everyone knows his quality, he gives us real natural speed on the side, one-v-one ability.
“And with James (Furlong), he’s a player we’ve tracked for a long time. Obviously, I have links with Brighton, he’s an outstanding young player, he had a great loan at Motherwell.”
A few eyebrows were raised when City struck a deal to sign left-back Furlong from Brighton, but Rosenior wanted cover for Ruben Vinagre having decided Brandon Fleming could go to Shrewsbury Town.
“Full-back was a position I needed to cover,” he said. “You saw at the end (of the game at Leicester), Jacob Greaves was going back out to left-back to cover, he’s a natural centre-back.
“Ruben was outstanding, considering the pre-season that he’s had, he was never going to last 90 minutes so James will come in and have a fair shot at it.”
On the whole, Rosenior says the club’s business was on point, and he can now look forward to one or two relaxing evenings, a glass or two of red wine, and some rest before the transfer chatter begins again.
“Really good work done, not by me, but the whole football club have come together,” the City boss continued. “It helps that we have a clear style of play. If you look at Scott Twine and Jaden, they could have picked anyone, but they believe in this way.
“That’s where we have to be different and we have to think differently to get top players to come. I couldn’t be happier. I had one glass of red and a good sleep which was nice and hopefully, I get a bit of rest now.”
