Hull City chief Liam Rosenior opens up on Greg Docherty’s future
The Tigers midfielder is yet to feature this season after picking up a knee injury in pre-season
Liam Rosenior says Greg Docherty remains firmly in his thoughts when it comes to offering the former Rangers midfielder a new contract at the MKM Stadium.
Docherty is into his option year at City after the club activated it at the end of last season but unless fresh terms can be agreed in the coming months, the 26-year-old will leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
The former Scotland Under-21 international is currently recovering from a knee ligament injury he picked up during the club’s pre-season trip to Turkiye, hurting himself in the 1-1 draw with Hatayspor. Rosenior says he’s making good progress with a return pencilled in for later this month.
His longer-term future, however, remains up in the air, but Rosenior says he will continue to be fair to Docherty and all of his players when it comes to their destiny, having previously spoken about the significant influence the Scot had in the dressing room.
“He’s doing really well,” Rosenior told Hull Live. “You know Doc as a character. He’s a fantastic, fantastic professional who is working really hard. I think it’s two-and-a-half weeks until he’s back training and he’s worked so hard to overcome what was a huge blow to him in pre-season.
“Every player who is a Hull City player is in my thoughts. It’s based on how you train, how you play, your performance levels, your commitment, your professionalism.
“Not just in the case of Doc, but anyone who wears that badge on their chest, I try and be as fair as possible in my decisions on team selection or transfers, ins or outs. If you’re a Hull City player and you’ve got value then you’ll be used.”
