Hull City summer transfer target Keinan Davis suffers Udinese injury setback
The striker’s start to life in Italy has frustratingly, for him, hit the buffers
Hull City transfer target Keinan Davis has picked up a calf injury just days into his career at Italian side Udinese which could see him miss the next six weeks.
City pushed hard to sign the 25-year-old striker from Aston Villa in the final weeks of the transfer window and felt they were in pole position to bring him to the MKM Stadium ahead of a host of other English clubs, having agreed a fee with the Premier League club and in principle, terms with the player and his representatives.
Davis, instead, opted to pursue a move to Serie A with Udinese, the club owned by the Pozzo family, who also operate City’s Championship rivals Watford, whom the striker spent last season on loan scoring seven times in 34 appearances.
During training with his new club, he underwent a variety of fitness drills to get him up to speed, but having not played a competitive game since the end of last season, and with no outings in pre-season, Davis suffered a tear to his left calf.
Reports in Italy suggest Davis will now be out of action for the next month at least, with a realistic expectation he will be sidelined until November as he recovers and a need to tread carefully upon his return to avoid any repeat.
“Udinese Calcio can confirm that Keinan Davis has suffered a calf strain in his left leg and will immediately begin a recovery programme,” the Italian club wrote in a statement.
According to a report in Messaggero, Davis arrived at the club ‘not in shape’ and needing a fitness plan to get him up to speed, which was expected to take around a month, with that plan now in tatters after his unfortunate muscle injury.
