Jack Grealish brands ex-Aston Villa boss a ‘clown’ in savage substitution response

Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Jack Grealish responds to John Gregory’s claims about the reasons behind a substitution that took place during his loan spell at Notts County

Jack Grealish has hit back at John Gregory over claims that he was substituted after being criticised by the former Aston Villa boss during a Notts County match.

Gregory was managing Crawley Town at the time when his team were facing the Magpies where Grealish spent a season on loan in 2013/14.

And the former Villa player and manager has claimed his remarks about the now England international resulted in Grealish being hauled off during the lower league clash around a decade ago.

“I actually got Jack Grealish taken off once,” he told the Undr the Cosh podcast. “He was on loan at Notts County from Villa so this would be about 2014. He must have been about 18/19 at the time.

“I’m in the dugout and whenever he came near me, I said, ‘ ******* Jack Grealish. Aston Villa. ******* rubbish. No wonder they’ve ******* sent you out to Notts County. I’m right in his ear, ‘no wonder they don’t ******* want you up there.’ Getting into him.

“They take him off substituting and he went home and told his dad and his dad spoke to one of my friends, I can’t think who it was and one of my friends said, ‘hey, what about your mate Gregory having a pop at my Jack.’ So my mate said, ‘took him off though, didn’t they?’

In response, Grealish has launched a stinging attack on the former Villa boss, claiming that Gregory’s claims about his substitution “never happened”.

“John Gregory – Episode 1 of things that never happened… What a clown,” he said followed by an embarrassed face emoji on the podcast’s Instagram page.

Grealish spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Meadow Lane, and made 37 League One appearances for the Magpies. One of those came away to Crawley on December 29, 2013 when he was subbed 66 minutes into a 1-0 defeat for his team.
