Instant reaction: Liam Millar joins PNE on loan from Basel

Preston North End have secured a second signing of deadline day with winger Liam Millar arriving from Basel on a season-long loan.

You wait nearly a month for a signing and two come along at once!

Cadiz striker Milutin Osmajic completed his move to PNE earlier this evening, signing a four-year deal at Deepdale.

North End made it two just about half an hour later, securing the signature of Basel winger Liam Millar too.

Ryan Lowe clearly wanted attacking additions and has pulled that off with the signing of striker Osmajic and wide man Millar.

Formerly of Liverpool, Millar joined Basel for £1.3million back in 2021 and has now racked up nearly 100 appearances for the Swiss side.

13 goals and 10 assists isn’t a bad return and the 23-year-old now returns to English football with a move to PNE.

North End have confirmed a loan deal with a purchase option rumoured but yet to be announced.

Olly Dawes: PNE really needed to add more pace and trickery in the final third this summer.

Millar can provide that; he’s confident running at defences and comfortable on either foot.

Another international player just like Osmajic, Millar featured for Canada at the World Cup in Qatar.

Millar’s versatility is really appealing; he’s played as a winger on both flanks, a striker in his Liverpool days, even as a full back and as a midfielder at times.

Ryan Lowe can utilise Millar in a number of roles and he seems like the kind of player to bring a real spark to the North End attack.

Having an option to buy would be great but even if it’s just a loan, this is another exciting attacking addition before the deadline.

Josh McLaughlin: Liam Millar is a versatile player so provides us with a few options. He’s played up front in the youth teams for Liverpool but has played more out wide for Basel.

He has good goal and assist figures in Switzerland and also has 21 caps for Canada. It remains to be seen where he will fit into this Preston team but along with Osmajic we have a lot more depth now.

A strong start to the season has been given a boost with these two signings which represent something a bit different for Preston.

The recruitment team have obviously been working hard on casting their net a bit further this summer.
