Iraola praises Adams

Iraola lauds ‘really good’ Leeds man Adams after Bournemoth ‘agree’ to sign £23m ex-Chelsea target

Andoni Iraola feels AFC Bournemouth will be getting a “really good player” if Tyler Adams completes his move from Championship side Leeds United.

The Cherries have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of an initial £23million with potential add-ons for the United States international, who is set to sign a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium.

“I think it’s a player that right now is not our player,” Iraola answered when asked about Adams at his pre-match press conference for Saturday’s Premier League trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.

“So we have to wait. I think that you know that the club is working towards signing someone there in the midfield, but we have to wait until everything is complete.

“He (Adams) is a really good player. He has performed in the Champions League, (he has) national team experience.

“But I don’t want to go too far because right now it’s not our player.”

Bournemouth, who appointed Spaniard Iraola in June after sacking Gary O’Neil, have had a busy summer transfer window.

Hamed Traore made his loan move from Sassuolo permanent, while Alex Scott, Andrei Radu, Justin Kluivert, Max Aarons, Milos Kerkez and Romain Faivre have also joined the Cherries.

Iraola said: “I think overall we are really happy with the squad.

“The area where we are looking forward to sign someone is this midfield because right now with a couple of injuries we also have we may be shorter there.

“But apart from that I think we are good, probably still a long time till the market ends.

“So probably there can be some changes, some players leaving and we have to replace them, but we are not especially looking with the same need that we are looking in the midfield area.”

Bournemouth were mauled 9-0 on their last visit to Liverpool 12 months ago, a game that proved to be Scott Parker’s final one in charge of the Cherries.

Iraola, who says he has only ever stood outside Anfield ahead of a pre-season game at nearby Everton, said: “It’s obviously a big challenge for the team.

“For me as a coach, I think we’re playing a very good team. I think they’ve done also very good signings.

“The game will be very demanding physically because they are very fast players, willing to play high tempo, attacking the space all the time, willing to counter, willing to press high also.

“So I think we will have a clear idea where we are compared to these kind of teams.”
