Boston Red Sox Coaching Staff: Potential bench coach candidates under Alex Cora - Over the Monster

Red Sox Reportedly Interested In Landing Polarizing Ex-Yankees Pitcher

Should the Red Sox consider the polarizing former Yankees hurler this offseason?

The Boston Red Sox need to rebuild the starting rotation this offseason.

Boston currently has Chris Sale and Brayan Bello slotted into the rotation and the other three spots are up in the air. The Red Sox could look to internal candidates like Tanner Houck, Garrett Whitlock, or Kutter Crawford, but it’s likely that the club will make at least one or two additions.

The Red Sox have been linked to stars like San Diego Padres hurler Blake Snell and Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but the club likely will look for at least one depth option as well. There are plenty of hurlers available to meet the Red Sox’s needs this offseason. It’s unclear exactly who the Red Sox will target to improve depth but one player who reportedly could be in the mix is former New York Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán, according to Major League Baseball insider Mike Rodriguez.

“Sources: Boston, (Toronto Blue Jays), (Houston Astros), and a mysterious team are very interested in the services of right-handed pitcher Domingo Germán.”

Germán is available in free agency but a move may not make sense. He has shown flashes at the big league level — even throwing a perfect game for the Yankees in 2023 — but has had multiple issues off the field over the last few years. He was suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy due to domestic violence in 2020 and left the Yankees in 2023 due to alcohol abuse. He was placed on waivers and elected free agency.
