Jets Reportedly Worked Out Controversial Former Browns Play
Even after losing future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the season in Week 1, the New York Jets have found a way to be competitive.
Against seemingly all odds, they have battled their way to a 4-3 record, and they’re currently in the hunt for an AFC playoff spot.
New York has been winning with defense, and per Field Yates, they worked out an interesting prospect: former Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey.
Winfrey was a fourth-round draft pick last year after two seasons at the University of Oklahoma, and in 13 games as a rookie in 2022, he had 22 combined tackles (eight solo), two quarterback hits, and two passes defended.
However, he has gotten in trouble with the law not once but twice.
In April of this year, he was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge after it was alleged he had grabbed the woman he was dating and caused her bodily injury.
The case was later dropped after he finished a pretrial diversion program.
Then in July, Winfrey was investigated by law enforcement after allegedly pulling a gun on a woman and threatening her during an alleged aggravated robbery incident while at a hotel in Cleveland.
The Browns cut him shortly afterward, and the NFL suspended him for two games this season.
New York is solid defensively up front with studs such as Quinnen Williams and Quincy Williams, but more talent and depth would certainly be welcome as they look to make the playoffs and set themselves up for success when Rodgers returns
