Keinan Davis, Oscar Estupinan and Ryan Woods – Hull City transfer window state of play
The Tigers are primed for a busy final week of the summer transfer window
Hull City’s squad could be transformed in the next week with Liam Rosenior plotting moves for as many as five new players before next Friday’s 11pm deadline.
Owner Acun Ilicali revealed to Hull Live on Monday that City had made moves for five players and hoped he could give Rosenior the players he believes will aid the club’s challenge for a place in the top six.
Rosenior has so far added five over the course of a quieter summer than last season, but the Tigers’ business could explode into life in the final days.
While the majority of fans will be watching closely to see who arrives between now and next Friday evening, it will be equally fascinating to see who departs.
Rosenior wants two players for each position, and should the players arrive he’s targeting then there will simply have to be departures, not only to trim an ever-increasing wage bill, but also to get fringe players playing regular football.
Here, Hull Live looks ahead to what may well happen over the next week…
Incomings
Jaden Philogene and Keinan Davis are the two players in the public domain who are closest to arriving. Philogene has passed a medical with the club, personal terms have been agreed and a fee was struck with Aston Villa, so we’re now into the final stages of crossing the is and dotting the ts.
Davis’ move to the MKM Stadium took another significant step closer on Thursday and it’s hoped he will agree terms to join his Villa teammate.
The Tigers’ bid to sign Max Bird has been shelved for now, after the midfielder picked up an ankle ligament injury which will see him sidelined until October.
Hull Live understands City will likely look to revisit that particular situation in the winter window with Bird out of contract next summer and viewed by Rosenior as a player with significant potential at the age of 22.
City have two other options for the midfield role with one based in England and the other abroad, and Rosenior must decide which one of the two will offer the best value, and complement his options.
Talks are ongoing over a goalkeeper and it’s expected that position will be filled, while another winger remains on the radar. Jesurun Rak-Sakhi is still a live target but has interest from a host of other clubs, and his availability may depend on incomings at Crystal Palace before Roy Hodgson sanctions his departure.
That’s a deal that will likely go right up until the deadline.
Outgoings
Rosenior has made it clear players will need to be moved out particularly if he’s able to bring in the players he’s currently in discussions with.
Should Keinan Davis’ move from Villa be ratified then it’s likely Oscar Estupinan will be allowed to move on. There is interest from Spain in the Colombian hitman who bagged 13 goals in his debut Championship season last term, but so far, the La Liga offers have not met City’s valuation.
Ryan Woods can leave the club with a number of clubs in League One having held talks with the Tigers over a possible loan move for the midfielder, but nothing has yet materialised.
Woods was at a recent Shrewsbury Town game leading to speculation that he could be on his way to the New Meadow, while Ryan Longman held talks with Fatih Karigumruk in Turkiye, but opted against that switch to pursue one in England.
Longman has also attracted interest from Oxford United, who took Brandon Fleming and Tyler Smith on loan in the second half of last season.
Fleming is another who could find himself on his way out having yet to make an appearance in the league so far, with Rosenior preferring Jacob Greaves at left-back in the absence of Ruben Vinagre.
Xavier Simons is rated highly by Rosenior, who made a big push to sign him from Chelsea in January, but the 20-year-old hasn’t played the football he would have liked. He will only find that task tougher should a new midfield operator arrive as planned in the next few days.
Simons could be allowed to move out, but only on loan, to build up his confidence and play regular football. Thimothee Lo-Tutala is another one who needs to play, and it’s expected his exit will be sanctioned once a new stopper arrives to provide competition for Matt Ingram.
