BREAKING NEWS: Leeds player misses midweek training sessions, won’t play v Birmingham

Wilfried Gnonto sits out Leeds United training in midweek, won’t play v Birmingham City

Wilfried Gnonto sat out training sessions in midweek before refusing to play against Shrewsbury, and won’t feature for Leeds against Birmingham according to the Daily Mail.

The Whites announced on Friday night (11 August) via a statement that the player had trained for the last two days but told Daniel Farke that he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play again after being told he won’t be sold by the 49ers.

But according to the Mail (12 August), the Italy international sat out training in midweek as he wasn’t happy with the club’s decision to force him to stay at Elland Road.

“Gnonto and his representatives have been told he will not be sold this summer despite strong interest from Everton,” they wrote.

“However, Gnonto is determined to secure a return to the Premier League to give himself a greater chance of making Italy’s national squad for the European Championship next summer.

“Mail Sport understands he sat out training sessions this week and has now informed Farke he is not in the right frame of mind to face Birmingham City so has not travelled.”

Get him gone

Obviously this is exactly what he wants, and the 49ers are well within their rights to hold him to the contract that he signed a year ago and keep him at the club.

But it doesn’t do anyone any good to have him sitting in the corner and sulking, not wanting to play and affecting the morale of the team in a negative way.

Everton and other teams clearly want him so the club should set their price and as soon as it is matched, let him leave. If he doesn’t want to be here, then he doesn’t deserve to wear the shirt.

Daniel Farke made it clear during his pre-Birmingham press conference that he only wants players around who are fully committed, and that tells you that his mind is made up also.

Get Gnonto out of this club, even if it does mean giving him what he wants, because it’s for the best for everyone involved at this point.
