Leeds set to hold talks with Rangers’ Glen Kamara, currently ‘pushing the strongest’ to secure signing
Leeds United are set to hold talks with Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara this week, TEAMtalk report, with fellow Championship sides Coventry and Middlesbrough also interested in the Finland international.
Rumours linking Kamara to the Whites have persisted the whole transfer window, but have gathered pace in recent days as it became clear another of Leeds’ midfielders – Tyler Adams – was due to join Premier League outfit Bournemouth, a move which was officially completed yesterday.
Adams’ decision to exit Elland Road, combined with the loss of midfielders Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson, Weston McKennie and Adam Forshaw earlier this summer, mean that the Whites midfield now looks notably light.
Whilst new signing Ethan Ampadu and 17-year-old Archie Gray have impressed within their defensive midfield roles so far this season, there is no denying that Leeds need reinforcements in the middle of the park.
As it stands, youngster Darko Gyabi is the only other player in Daniel Farke’s squad capable of stepping into the deep-lying position were Ampadu or Gray unable to feature.
Kamara is one of the key candidates to strengthen this area of the pitch for the Whites, with the 27-year-old reportedly being told he can leave Rangers by boss Michael Beale. And with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, it is understood that the Gers are keen to sell Kamara before his value depreciates.
West Yorkshire is the favoured destination for the midfielder, claim TEAMtalk, stating that Leeds are those “pushing the strongest” amongst the sides vying for his signature.
“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Kamara has options open to him with talks held with all three Championship hopefuls.
“Of the trio, however, it is Leeds who are pushing the strongest. Leeds’ technical director Gretar Steinsson is pushing to finalise a deal for Kamara with the Whites desperately short of midfield options.”
The development comes following links between Leeds and out-of-favour Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey earlier today, yet it is understood that Kamara remains Farke’s “first-choice target” for the position.
With less than 2 weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, time is of the essence if two-time Championship winner Farke is to build a squad with enough strength-in-depth to secure an immediate return to the Premier League this term.
