Leeds United transfer rumours as Illan Meslier emerges as ‘an option’ for Real Madrid

A round-up of the latest Leeds United transfer rumours.

A look at the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Saturday, August 12.

Illan Meslier linked with sensational Real Madrid switch

Illan Meslier is ‘an option’ for Real Madrid, according to Spanish outlet Sport. They claim that the Spanish giants, who need a goalkeeper following Thibaut Courtois’ season-ending injury, is on one of two shortlists the club have in terms of a replacement.

The first list reportedly contains veteran players, such as David De Gea and Bono, while another is said to feature younger targets, which is where Meslier’s name has popped up.

The Leeds United shot-stopper has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Elland Road following on from relegation last season. However, despite the arrival of Karl Darlow from Newcastle United, Meslier remains the number one at the Whites and there has not yet been an approach for the 23-year-old.

Cronache Salerno claim Leo Hjelde remains a target for Serie A side Salernita this summer. However the report claims the injury to Junior Firpo is impacting a possible departure for the young defender.

The 19-year-old has started the last two games for the Whites, with options sparse at left-back given the injury to Firpo. The Brazilian isn’t set to return any time soon, which reports in Italy claim to have slowed down a possible departure from Elland Road this summer.

Hjelde spent last season on loan with Rotherham United and gathered some vital Championship experience, but has struggled since the start of the season. It’s still early days, but the report claims developments are ‘expected.’

Leeds United and adidas have joined forces once again for the home kit that Leeds will wear for the 2023/24 season. A timeless white shirt, the adidas stripes feature the classic royal blue and yellow that shows the origins and history of the club. This shirt is uniquely Leeds.
