Predicted Leeds XI for Sheffield Wednesday match: One change as exit-linked stars both start

Leeds United will be looking for back-to-back league wins for the first time in 10 months when they face Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

The Whites picked up their first win under Daniel Farke last weekend by ending Ipswich Town’s 100% record with a 4-3 win at Portman Road.

Leeds’ opponents Wednesday, meanwhile, are still yet to pick up a single point this season after losing all four of their league matches since winning promotion from League One.

From last week’s starting XI, Sam Byram and Luis Sinisterra will be unavailable for selection with the former having picked up an injury and the latter having joined Bournemouth.

So, with that in mind, here is a look at how Leeds could line-up.

Goalkeeper

Illan Meslier will now definitely be at Leeds until January at least with the window now shut and is Farke’s number one.

Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon will start alongside each other for the third consecutive league match as they continue to build the foundations of a good partnership.

At full-back is where we could see changes and despite the fact Leo Hjelde remained at the club beyond the deadline, Jamie Shackleton is likely to start at left-back.

It would be great to see new signing Djed Spence come straight into the side on the other flank, but given his recent lack of minutes, Luke Ayling will probably get the nod.

One way or another, Spence will hopefully get some minutes.

Midfield

Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray now finally have some competition for their midfield spots, but are unlikely to be dislodged for today despite the arrivals of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara this week.

Both could be in contention to make their debuts off the bench, though in the case of Gruev, it will be dependent on whether he receives a visa in time.

Attack

With Sinisterra having departed Elland Road yesterday, Crysencio Summerville is likely to come into the side and join a strong looking front four that also consists of Wilfried Gnonto, Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter.

Predicted Leeds XI (4-2-3-1): Meslier; Ayling, Rodon, Struijk, Byram; Ampadu, Gray; Summerville, Piroe, Gnonto; Rutter
