City’s last meeting with Sunderland came back in April 2017, when both clubs were in the Premier League. Second half goals from Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy gave City a 2-0 win over the Black Cats at the King Power Stadium.

Since then, Sunderland have dropped to the third tier, but earned promotion back to the Championship two seasons ago. City’s relegation last season means that they will now meet in the second tier.
