Leicester City in ‘negotiations’ for Tottenham transfer as Enzo Maresca starts rebuild
The latest Leicester City transfer news as the midfielder has emerged as a target for City in the summer transfer window with talks ongoing between the clubs.
Leicester City are reportedly in talks with Tottenham over a deal for midfielder Harry Winks, as Enzo Maresca starts his rebuild of the squad.
City are expected to be active in the current transfer window as they prepare for life in the Championship. They have already confirmed the exit of seven players, who have left at the end of their contracts, with James Maddison also seemingly closing in on leaving the King Power Sta
Winks has just one year remaining on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has spent the last season playing on loan with Serie A side Sampdoria. He made a total of 20 appearances for the Italian side after recovering from an ankle injury in the first half of the season.
Like Maddison, Winks is an England international. His last cap, however, came back in November 2020, when he provided an assist in a 4-0 UEFA Nations League win over Iceland. He has a total of 10 caps in an England shirt.
The player’s ‘versatility’ is said to be one reason he has been targeted this summer. Midfield is the area where City will need the most work in the summer transfer window, with Tielemans, Maddison and Nampalys Mendy moving on.
There is also uncertainty over the futures of Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumare who have both been linked with moves away from the club. If both were to leave It would leave academy graduates Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Hamza Choudhury as the options for Maresca without signings.
