Leicester City To Complete £7.5 million Signing By Tonight

Leicester City are closing in on the signing of Everton striker Tom Cannon and the player will be signed, sealed and delivered by tonight’s deadline, according to The Athletic.

The Irish striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston North End in the Championship where he impressed, bagging eight times from 20 appearances at Deepdale.

Head coach Ryan Lowe was keen to bring the centre-forward back on a permanent basis this term but Preston faced tough competition from the likes of Sunderland, Leicester and even Middlesbrough for his signature.

In the end, the Foxes are set to come out on top. The Athletic are reporting that the 21-year-old will complete his medical today and will become Leicester City’s new centre-forward before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Journalist Alan Nixon initially broke the news this morning that Enzo Maresca’s side had won the race to sign the frontman but revealed that the agreed transfer fee is £6 million, £1.5 million less than has been reported by The Athletic.

What does this mean for Kelechi Iheanacho?

It is no secret that a host of clubs have been trying to sign Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho. Crystal Palace were said to be the favourites to acquire the Nigerian goalscorer, followed closely by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Ben Jacobs announced yesterday that West Ham United have also been keeping tabs on the £20 million centre-forward who could complete his departure from the King Power Stadium before the deadline passes.

Furthermore, Paston Daka is being linked with a loan move to Italian giants Milan and may be on his way out the door as well, as per Calciomercato, freeing up space in the attacking department for Cannon.

It seems likely that the signing of Cannon is a replacement for either Iheanacho or Daka given there is a huge possibility that one of them leaves Leicester City by tonight.

Cannon is an excellent centre-forward and has shown from his stint at Preston that he could be an incredible coup for the Foxes for just £7.5 million.
