Harry Souttar will not be leaving Leicester City for Rangers, according to reports in Scotland.

The central defender is one of several first team players the Foxes have been looking to move on in the summer transfer window.

And while they have made progress with last season’s crown jewels, with James Maddison and Harvey Barnes moving for big money, others have been more difficult to farm out.

There had been hopes giant centre back Souttar, who is yet to make a matchday squad in the English second tier this term, could link up with his brother John at Glasgow Rangers.

However, Football Scotland are reporting the potential move has ‘hit a snag’. They say Rangers’ resources have been hit by their midweek elimination from the Champions League, a hammering at PSV condemning them to the less lucrative Europa League.

Football Scotland says that means Gers won’t now be able to meet ‘hefty salary demands’ leaving the 24-year-old in limbo with just a couple of hours of the transfer window left. While the window in England closes at 11pm, it is open north of the border until midnight. Souttar made 12 appearances for the Foxes last term after joining them from Stoke in January.
