Allardyce explains Maguire’s West Ham snub

Former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has claimed Harry Maguire rejected the chance to join the Hammers as he did not want to be involved in a relegation battle.

United accepted a £30m bid from West Ham for Maguire, but the move ultimately collapsed and Allardyce says the England international “wants something bigger”. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, he said: “He turned West Ham down, he’s turned it down. I know his agent really well.

“I think – and this is no disrespect to West Ham, because I managed them – he feels that with the troubles they had last season down the bottom of the league, he doesn’t want to be going there, he wants something bigger.”
