Mansfield Town in the hunt for free agent additions to further bolster squad

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has said they will look into the free agent market for further additions.

Mansfield Town are keen to bolster their squad despite the transfer window shutting last week.

The Stags pulled out of a deal for an unnamed loan signing on deadline day and remain interested in bringing in some more players to add more depth to their ranks.

Clough has provided this transfer update to the Chad: “We did try for a loan but had one or two problems with the club we were trying to get him from and just couldn’t quite get it through. So we didn’t pursue that one

“There are still one or two free agents out there we talked to before the window closed, so we can pick up on those. One or two we spoke to were waiting to see if they got any better offers as they are in a position now where they can sign for anybody.”

Mansfield still eyeing signings

Mansfield may feel they are still short in some particular areas and there are still plenty of players without a club at the moment.

The Nottinghamshire outfit have made a solid start to the new campaign and have picked up 10 points from their first six outings. They are sat in 7th position in the League Two table and are yet to losing having won two and drawn four so far.

Clough’s men drew 0-0 at home to Bradford City last time out and are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Accrington Stanley as they look to keep their momentum going.

Mansfield had a busy summer on the transfer front and brought in eight new faces. Goalkeeper Christy Pym was snapped up on a permanent basis following his loan spell from Peterborough United last term.

Aden Flint, Baily Cargill, Callum Macdonald, George Williams and Aaron Lewis were brought in to strengthen their defensive department, whilst Leicester City’s Lewis Brunt joined on loan to add more competition and depth to their options in the middle of the park.

At the top end of the pitch, Clough was able to secure the permanent addition of Will Swan after his loan from Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
