NEILL COLLINS’ REACTION TO VICTORY OVER BURTON ALBION

Our Head Coach discussed the victory over Burton Albion for iFollow Barnsley.

“Lots of individual positive performances, but most importantly the collective team performance was good.”

The Reds recorded their fourth consecutive win in all competitions as Devante Cole added to his goal tally for the season with a brace against the Brewers.

Collins was pleased with how his side went about their business after a short break from action following the international window.

“Very professional performance,” began the Scot. Certainly, I thought there was lots of quality on display at times in some of our play. Maybe a couple more moments of quality and we could have created a few more chances. Each game, as we keep saying beforehand, is never easy. Burton had the same time as us to prepare, they want their first win and I thought that in the end, we made it as comfortable as you could possibly hope for without getting that third goal to put you on easy street. Lots of individual positive performances, but most importantly the collective team performance was good.”

Cole’s double on Saturday afternoon perfectly replicated his showing against the visitors last campaign at Oakwell, firing in twice to secure a 2-0 victory in December 2022.

Despite Devante being the one to apply the finishing touch, Collins was quick to emphasise the importance of the team in allowing the Reds to breach the opposition’s defence.

“The reason he’ll take the headlines is because the ball hit the net twice and that’s what he’s there to do. He took his goals so well. I’m delighted for him, his hard work has paid off and Devante will be the first to say he’s been really well supported. From all the way at the back, I thought again Liam was excellent, then it went through the whole team. Devante, rightfully so, scores a couple more goals and takes the plaudits. He’ll know that he’s part of a great team effort today.”
