Williams battle

Nico Williams is a name which has reportedly been on the Magpies’ radar for some time, with the exciting winger also attracting attention from the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool. Eddie Howe has bolstered his frontline options with Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon already in this calendar year, but a new report suggests a move for another wide forward could be on the cards.

Williams is set to become a free agent in the summer, with Athletic Bilbao so far proving unsuccessful in their efforts to convince the 21-year-old to sign a new contract. Spanish outlet SPORT via Sport Witness suggests Barcelona are keen to land the attacker on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, Premier League clubs such as Newcastle could look to beat the La Liga champions to the deal by making their moves in January. Williams has a release clause in the region of £43 million, although it remains to be seen whether the Magpies would be prepared to spend that sum on a player who could be available for free in a matter of months.

Joelinton talks

Callum Wilson became the latest first-team star to agree a contract extension at St James’ Park. Newcastle’s top scorer for the last three seasons was set to become a free agent next summer, but has signed a new deal which could keep the number nine on Tyneside until the end of the 2024/2025 season.

According to the Telegraph, Joelinton could be the next senior star to agree a contract extension. Speculation remains ongoing over his Brazil team-mate Bruno Guimaraes’ own extension, and the former club record signing is said to be in talks over his own deal.
