Nottingham Forest transfer exit confirmed
Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Omar Richards departs the City Ground to join Olympiacos on loan
Nottingham Forest defender Omar Richards has joined Olympiacos on a season-long loan.
The full-back will join the Greek club who are also owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Richards arrived at the City Ground from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munch in July 2022 but did not make a single appearance for Steve Cooper’s side last season after suffering a hairline fracture to the leg along with other injury problems.
Reds boss Cooper said earlier this month that the club were working with him in order to try and build his fitness up ahead of his return to action.
“With him being out for so long, getting back up to the demands of a Premier League training environment means he has just got to get his body robust enough,” he said. “Unfortunately, once he gets to a certain level, he keeps getting little knocks and niggles that keep him out for another week or two weeks. He’s continuing to go through that.
“He’s had so much bad luck. We’re trying to recover and rehab the small injuries while trying to build his body to be strong enough that when he does come back in he can actually handle it.
“He has trained this pre-season; he did a lot of good work up until Spain, up until he had a bit of a setback where he had to come out again. We’re trying to deal with that while also building his body so that when he comes back he can handle it, because he’s a good player.
“He just needs a bit of luck. We’re working well with him; he’s very much part of what we’re doing, certainly in terms of the culture and things like that. He just needs a stroke of luck.”
The 25-year-old is the second Reds player to make the move to Olympiacos this summer. Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Scarpa also joined on loan earlier this month.
