Stoke City sign off deadline day deal as youngster joins Notts County on loan
Transfer news from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City send out Lewis Macari to League Two
Lewis Macari is joining Notts County on loan as he seeks valuable experience in League Two.
The versatile defender, now aged 21 and the grandson of popular manager Lou Macari, has come through the ranks at Stoke City and had a successful loan last year at Dundalk in Ireland, helping the side qualify for the Europa Conference League.
He made his senior Stoke debut on his return, in the FA Cup at Hartlepool, and signed a short-term contract at the end of the season but he is in need of more game time, which he hopes to get in League Two. A deal has been agreed until December 31.
A statement from the Notts County board of directors said: “After losing Geraldo Bajrami we felt it was important to strengthen defensively, so we’re delighted to have secured Lewis’ services.

“Although he spent most of his time at Dundalk as a full-back, he is more than comfortable at centre-back and possesses all the attributes we look for in someone who can play on the right of a back three.
“As well as being defensively sound, Lewis is energetic and an excellent crosser of the ball. We feel he can make positive contributions in attacking phases, as well as defensive.”
