Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has broken a club record that has stood since 1995.
The Nigerian forward has scored in seven consecutive Premier League games, breaking the record previously set by Stan Collymore.
Awoniyi’s record goes back to last season, when Steve Cooper’s side beat Southampton 4-3 at the City Ground.
The striker becomes only the third African player in Premier League history to score in seven consecutive Premier League, after Mohammed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Taiwo Awoniyi £17 million well spent
Awoniyi was unstoppable when he came back from injury during the second half of last season, but it seems as though the 26-year-old has carried his form over into 2023/24.
The beast has scored three in three this campaign, making him joint-top scorer in the top flight so far this season.
The Reds are a much better side with Awoniyi upfront.
He gives Forest an option and focal point up front to play off allowing the likes of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White the freedom to cause the opposition chaos.
Cooper will be hoping that his number nine can maintain fitness and avoid a repeat of last season’s injury which saw him miss nearly three months of the season.
If he can keep up his impressive form, there is no reason why the Nigerian can’t score at least 15 goals this season and help Forest build on the 16th-place finish achieved last campaign.
