Sources: Everton ready to sign free-agent attacker

Everton boss Sean Dyche and his recruitment staff are scouring the market for potential free-agent arrivals, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed attacking players are wanted by the Toffees following exits late in the transfer window, which shut on Friday (1 September).

Everton lost attacking trio Alex Iwobi, Tom Cannon and Neal Maupay to English clubs on deadline day.

Everton completed five summer signings, including a big-money deal for Udinese striker Beto.

The 25-year-old got off to an ideal start for the Merseysiders, scoring in his debut in a 2-1 League Cup win over Doncaster.

Ashley Young was signed on a free transfer after his Aston Villa and the 38-year-old has started in each of Everton’s four Premier League fixtures so far this season.

Dyche’s side remain winless in the top-flight this season and have picked up just one point following their 2-2 away draw with promoted Sheffield United on Saturday (2 September).

Loan signing Arnaut Danjuma grabbed the second-half equaliser, joining Abdoulaye Doucoure as the only Toffees players to score a league goal this season.

Goals were also a problem as Everton narrowly avoided relegation last season – with Dwight McNeil finishing as the club’s top scorer with just nine goals.

Talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues to struggle for fitness after coming off against Aston Villa last month with a facial injury.

Meanwhile, Demarai Gray – who scored six times last term – could depart for Saudi Arabia this week.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 September) that Everton rejected a bid for winger Demarai Gray from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq on deadline day.

However, the Saudi window is open until Thursday (7 September).

Dyche’s side face Arsenal next up after the international break (17 September).
