Outstanding young player’ – Liverpool loanee impresses coach with instant debut impact

Tyler Morton joined Hull City on a year-long loan deal from Liverpool earlier this summer

Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior beamed about Tyler Morton after the midfielder provided an assist in his first appearance since signing on loan from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old that Jurgen Klopp once described as having an exceptional football brain for his Champions League appearances during his breakout season has been utilising spells in the Championship to assist his development.

Last season he spent time at Blackburn Rovers, making 46 appearances in total. During that time he signed a new long-term contract at Anfield before unfortunately ending the year prematurely with foot fracture.

This kept him from playing in Klopp’s squad during pre-season and it was ultimately decided a second loan move would be the best course of action.

In his first action of the new season, Morton came off the bench in the 59th minute of his loan club’s recent second-tier clash with Coventry City – eventually providing the assist for striker Aaron Connolly to level the score at 1-1 three minutes before full-time.

“Tyler came on (and was very good). He’s had no minutes because he’s had a minor injury,” his new manager told Hull Live in response. “I thought he was magnificent when he came on

“He showed so many touches of class, so many touches of quality, he kept us on the ball was brave and he showed exactly why we worked so hard to bring him to the club. That 30-minute performance showed exactly why we waited so long to bring him in.”

In the next stint of the campaign, Rosenior admitted he would have to be careful in order to make sure the Reds’ academy graduate makes a whole recovery.

He said: “He’s not up to full fitness at all. I have three midfielders in there – Tyler, Regan (Slater) and Mika (Jean Michael Seri) – whichever of those two start, we’ll have quality. Tyler’s an outstanding young player – he’s really happy and turned down a lot of clubs to be here.”
