Postecoglou reveals when Bentancur is likely to return from injury after recent meeting

While this summer has been entirely focused on players coming and going, Tottenham Hotspur fans may have forgotten that one outstanding midfielder is still among the squad. Now, Ange Postecoglou has spoken about when he expects Rodrigo Bentancur to be back playing after his injury.

So far this season, Ange Postecoglou’s early success as Spurs boss has largely been down to the fantastic work from his midfield trio.

Yves Bissouma has looked like a completely different player to the one we saw last year, while Pape Matar Sarr has emerged as a young man who is more than ready for the first team.

Meanwhile, the star of the show has been new signing James Maddison, who has been pulling the strings in his number 10 role. Two assists and a goal have capped an impressive start to life in North London for Maddison (Transfermarkt).

It’s worth remembering amid all this buzz, that the club still have Rodrigo Bentancur to come back into the fold. The Uruguayan has been out injured since February with an ACL problem.

When will Bentancur be back?

Speaking to the press (via Football.London) ahead of the weekend’s action, Postecoglou was asked about a potential return date for Bentancur.

He said: “There’s not a defined [comeback date] but he is getting closer. I think probably around November time, we’d be looking to reintegrate him into it. He’s ticking all the boxes so far. He’s really keen.

“He came to see me yesterday wanting to train and within a minute I had one of the medical team running behind him to collar him and drag him out. He’s definitely keen and it’ll be great to get him back because his contribution when he first came to the club was outstanding.

“In many respects he’ll be like another new signing for us, which is great but we won’t rush it. It’s obviously a significant injury so we’re probably looking around that timescale.”

While the midfield is playing the way it is, we can manage without rushing Bentancur back.

Hopefully, he returns to the team with the same energy and quality he had before the injury, and if he performs anything like we know he can, then our midfield will become even stronger.
