“We didn’t even answer” – Director unhappy with Nottingham Forest’s late approach for signing

On August 31st, Nottingham Forest signed Murillo from Corinthians and a day later they took Andrew Omobamidele from Norwich City. These were the two centre-backs to arrive at the City Ground in the last window.

Prior to the duo’s arrival, the Tricky Trees failed in their efforts to sign CA Osasuna’s David García.

According to Estadio Deportivo, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers had ‘bid for the defender more intensely’.

Steve Cooper’s side made a late approach for the 29-year-old and the report states the attitude shown by them didn’t please the La Liga side.

This is relayed by Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez when speaking to the reporters to analyse the club’s summer business. He explained they didn’t even respond to Nottingham Forest’s request to sign the defender.

“An English club contacted us. It seems to me a lack of respect. It was a declaration of intentions of love. They wanted to sit down and talk to us three days before closing so that García could pass his medical examination,” he said.

“It’s surreal, I had never seen it before. Luckily, we didn’t even answer. David himself knew he would hurt our planning a lot if he left. His position was not to force anything. So, since there was nothing, we couldn’t reject anything.”

Vázquez or Estadio Deportivo don’t mention the deal Nottingham Forest were willing to offer for the Spain international, who has a €20m release clause in his contract.
