Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson says he will have to ‘wait and see’ how Hayden Carter is after the defender was forced off in the Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea.

The 23-year-old hobbled off just past the hour mark at Stamford Bridge and was replaced by Scott Wharton in the heart of Rovers’ defence.

With Dom Hyam still sidelined with an ankle issue, Tomasson hopes Carter’s name won’t also be added to Rovers’ injury list.

“I don’t know if it’s serious or not,” he said.

“We all know that the squad has been quite stretched.

“I have a young squad and not the biggest squad as well, but hopefully Hayden is alright. Let’s wait and see.

“He can’t play at the weekend because he got his fifth yellow card the other day, but hopefully he’s ready for the upcoming game against Preston, a local derby, the week after.”

Tomasson added: “It was great to see Harry Leonard get more minutes in his legs again. A young boy learning a lot.

“Hopefully Sammie Szmodics, my top scorer, will be ready for the weekend as well.”
