BREAKING NEWS: Sheffield United dressing room verdict on ‘top class’ Sensational following move from Coventry

Sheffield United dressing room verdict on ‘top class’ Gustavo Hamer following move from Coventry

The midfielder has not only made an immediate impression on the Blades supporters but has also impressed his team-mates as well

Gustavo Hamer has wasted no time impressing his new team-mates following his summer move from Coventry City. The midfielder has made an immediate impact.

He was brought in with big shoes to fill following the sale of Sander Berge. The Norwegian international was a big part of Paul Heckingbottom’s attacking and creative threat, contributing 11 goals and assists on the way to promotion. With Iliman Ndiaye’s 25 also being lost there was a big question of how Heckingbottom would fill that void.

The early signs are encouraging, with yesterday’s 73rd-minute strike adding to the goal on his debut and his involvement in the two goals against Everton. It certainly bodes well for the future and supporters have already taken to him.

So too as his Sheffield United team-mates in the dressing room. Oliver Norwood spent last season up against him when Hamer was in the colours of play-off finalists Coventry City. He’s now playing alongside him and he is ‘delighted’ he is now team-mates.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Norwood told SUTV: “I was actually delighted when we signed Gus because I was always saying to people how good a player he is and I really enjoyed playing against him when he was at Coventry.

“He is a really good player, technically really good and physically he gets about the pitch. A bit of nastiness about him as well, which is good.”

Striker Oli McBurnie has already seen his ability close up. It was Hamer’s cross that McBurnie touched into the path of Cameron Archer for his debut striker against Everton.

He said: “He’s been top class. From the first day of training, we did a crossing and finishing drill and every one of his crosses and finishes was on point.

“One thing I like about him is that his first thought is always forward, which as a striker is perfect.”

His second goal of the season yesterday looked to be enough to secure a stunning victory at high-flying Tottenham before the added-on time rally. It was a goal that highlighted his Premier League quality.

Heckingbottom is delighted at how quickly he has settled: “It doesn’t surprise me, though. I think you all know what I think of him. Our window was a bit chaotic but we thought we could get him when things changed financially.

“From my point of view, I think he’s a good lad, good player. Premier League is his level.”
