Sheffield United trying to do deal for striker who has rejected big money move because he wants to join West

Sheffield United are trying to do a deal for a striker who has reportedly rejected a big money move because he wants to join West Ham.

There is no love lost between West Ham and Sheffield United but they appear to have a mutual appreciation over one particular player.

David Moyes and Paul Heckingbottom are desperate to bring a striker in.

And now it seems the Blades are trying to muscle in on a forward who has been linked with a move to the Hammers for over a year in the shape of Divock Origi.

Origi was linked with a move to West Ham when he was leaving Liverpool. But he ended up joining AC Milan instead.

After a dismal spell in Italy, though, Origi continues to be linked with a move to West Ham with rumours he could eventually find his way to the London Stadium as a last minute arrival in the summer transfer window.

Sheffield United have other ideas, though.

The report claims that was because the 28-year-old is keen to join the West Ham instead.

However, Sheffield United boss Heckingbottom wants to try and change his mind.

While West Ham were being linked with a permanent move, Sheffield United are said to be exploring a loan.

Amid the rumours of his desire to sign for West Ham, Nixon claims Heckingbottom is “trying to find out if Origi fancies a season with them in the Premier League“.

“Origi could be a wild card capture for Paul Heckingbottom’s club who are struggling to land more goal threats…” Nixon reports.

“The Origi chase will also be a challenge as he has interest in the Middle East and is being offered to other Premier League clubs.”

West Ham fans would not be excited by the signing of Origi.

But he would be an unbelievable coup for newly-promoted Sheffield United – who are sure to be in a season-long relegation battle.

Signing him might help change the outcome of that challenge. But it remains to be seen whether Moyes revisits his longstanding
