Demarai Gray wants to leave Everton ASAP amid interest from Saudi Arabia due to his “very bad” relationship with Sean Dyche, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Writing on his official Substack page (5 September), the reliable transfer journalist reports that the Toffees are in “advanced” talks with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq about a move for the Jamaica international.

But after rejecting their latest bid the player is unhappy and is pushing for the move to go through, with his relationship with the manager completely broken at this point.

“From what I’m hearing, the conversation between Demarai Gray and Al Ettifaq is very advanced – he wants to go there, it’s a big offer and a big decision for him and his family,” he wrote.

“The conversation between Gray and Al Shabab was also very advanced, but it collapsed because there were some changes at the club’s board and they decided to go for Yannick Carrasco instead.

“The problem for Gray is Everton. In the last two or three days, they decided to reject the proposal from Al Ettifaq, and the player is not at all happy with that.

“Let’s see how this story will continue, but I’m sure Gray will continue to push for the move – his relationship with Sean Dyche is now very bad, so I’m sure it’s time to go and to try to push for Everton to give the green light.”

Let him go

Everton obviously lost Alex Iwobi on deadline day in a deal they didn’t really want to do, but the money was too good to refuse.

But it’s been clear since before that that Gray isn’t in the manager’s plans and that he wants to go, so keeping him this long seemed strange to begin with.

The club are in the same position as they were with Iwobi right now, in the sense that Gray wants out and is into the final year of his contract but it isn’t a Premier League club looking to sign him so the chances of getting as much money are slim.

But Gray has had his squad number taken off him and given to a new signing, so the club would be better off cashing in at this point and letting him go. He won’t play again anyway, so it at least gets money in and wages off the books.
