BREAKING NEWS: Shock news, Bristol City boss set for swift return to the dugout with League One club

Former Bristol City boss Lee Johnson set for swift return to the dugout with League One club

Former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is closing in on a return to management just two weeks after being sacked by Hibernian

Former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is set for a near-instant return to management just over a week after being sacked by Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian.

The 42-year-old’s spell in Edinburgh was ended after Hibs’ 5-0 thrashing at home to Aston Villa in Conference League qualifying whilst they currently sit third-bottom in the Scottish top-flight after a slow start to the campaign.

However, Johnson is set to return to his homeland swiftly with League One strugglers Fleetwood Town expected to appoint the Englishman as their new manager, according to TEAMtalk and Football Insider.

The Cods parted ways with Celtic legend Scott Brown last weekend after six consecutive defeats, five of which coming in the league with the third tier outfit second-bottom of the table with just one point from six games.

Johnson was in charge at Ashton Gate from 2016 to 2020, managing 217 games and averaging a 1.41 points-per-game ratio with league finishes of 17th, 11th, 8th and 12th during his tenure before being dismissed at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and replaced by assistant Dean Holden.

Since, the 42-year-old has taken two jobs near the England-Scotland border, taking over at Sunderland in December 2020 before being sacked in January 2022 with the Black Cats still a League One outfit. Johnson’s replacement Alex Neil then led the north-east side to play-off success four months later.
