Over the weekend, Bristol Rovers defeated Shrewsbury Town 2-0 for their second league victory of the season. John Marquis and Aaron Collins scored the goals.

John Marquis has praised Bristol Rovers for their perseverance in picking up three points against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday despite the game being largely tedious. Goals from the substitute captain and Aaron Collins clinched a 2-0 victory in Shropshire.

There were worries that there would be a sense of déjà vu at the end of the game after a relatively boring first half in which the visitors generated very few chances. Rovers had dominated possession in their previous three games but only managed to earn one point.

Once more, the Gas controlled the majority of the ball (64%) but finished the first half with just three shots, none of which were on goal. Jack Hunt put in some strong work toward the end of the half to help with two crucial blocks as the Salops looked to turn the screw before halftime.

Rovers, on the other hand, came out more fluidly for the second half and, with the assistance of substitutes Jevani Brown and Luke McCormick in particular, were able to forge the pivotal moment as the game awaited a team to deliver the opening blow.

With 73 minutes left in the game, James Wilson connected with Brown through a fantastic team move, and Brown then passed a long ball to Collins, who in turn delivered a beautiful cross for Marquis to score on.

Fortunately for the Gas, Matt Taylor’s team never had a chance to tie the score despite making claims for a penalty before giving up the opening goal, with the visitors clinching the match in extra time.
