New Southampton boss Ruben Selles insists he has nothing to prove in first managerial role | The Independent

Report: Southampton could beat Leeds in race for £20m target, after winning Ryan Manning race

A report from The Independent claim Southampton are also in the running to sign Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo after claims Leeds United wanted the winger – who started against us during Wednesday’s friendly in Oslo.

Diallo, 21, starred in the Championship last season. Playing 42 times in all competitions for Sunderland, 38 of which came in England’s second tier, he had a hand in 18 goals – scoring 14 and creating four more. A loan exit is possible.

According to the Sunday People (25/6; page 56), Leeds are interested in landing Manchester United’s £20m signing on loan. Sunderland want to bring him back but the Independent now claim that Southampton are also interested.

Southampton have of course beaten Leeds to the signing of Ryan Manning on a free transfer, the left-back reuniting with his ex-Swansea manager Russell Martin. Now, the Saints are looking to push Leeds aside again, for star Diallo

Diallo would be a wonderful signing for any Championship club, judging by his form with Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats last season. Leeds need wingers – Jack Harrison, Willy Gnonto, Cree Summerville and Luis Sinisterra are likely to go.

Dan James has returned, while Georginio Rutter is likely to play out wide. On Wednesday, Daniel Farke used Mateo Joseph, Ian Poveda and Sinisterra, as well as James, on the flanks. Poveda and Costa have come in from the cold.

While James is expected to remain, Costa and Poveda could also end up leaving Leeds. So, Diallo would not only be a decent signing – but one that is needed. Leeds need to move quickly though, as Southampton become interested.
