SPURS PLAYER HOLDS TALKS WITH DANIEL LEVY AMID POSTECOGLOU DECISIONS
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has held crunch talks with Daniel Levy over his future under Ange Postecoglou.
Eric Dier has sat down for a meeting with Daniel Levy in order to discuss his situation with Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to The Telegraph, who claim that Dier has gone to Levy to ask what the future holds for him at Spurs.
Dier hasn’t been in any Tottenham matchday squad this season; not even the Carabao Cup clash with Fulham, in which Ange Postecoglou made nine changes.
Dier just doesn’t seem to be a good fit under Postecoglou and the 29-year-old has effectively been frozen out.
Out of contract next summer, Dier seemingly wants to know whether there will be a new contract on the table.
Based upon the early weeks of the season, we would have to suggest that there won’t be with Spurs seemingly heading in a different direction.
Saudi Arabian clubs are interested as their deadline day hits today, but a late deal for Dier seems unlikely.
Eric Dier may yet be needed at Tottenham
In an absolutely ideal world, we can only imagine that Postecoglou wanted to flog Dier and bring in somebody more suited to his style of play.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly were both key targets during the summer transfer window but Spurs just couldn’t make it happen.
Tottenham have still taken the surprise decision to cash in on Davinson Sanchez, selling him to Galatasaray.
The Colombian was due to be out of contract in 2024, so Spurs have taken the money before he could walk for nothing.
The move leaves Tottenham with a lack of cover for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven though, with Dier potentially needed in case of emergency.
Dier may even end up behind teenager Ashley Phillips in the Spurs pecking order but there could be a route to first-team playing time yet for D
Where could Dier end up?
Dier will surely be moving on from Tottenham in 2024, likely bringing an end to his time at Spurs after 10 years at the club.
There does appear to be interest from elsewhere with Fulham boss Marco Silva keen over the summer.
Silva and Dier briefly crossed paths at Sporting in Portugal and a reunion there may still be a possibility with Adarabioyo likely to move on in 2024.
90Min added that Sporting are keen to bring Dier back to the club whilst Lisbon rivals Benfica are also interested in a slightly controversial move given his Sporting history.
That report even added that Celtic like Dier, with the Bhoys potentially looking to pounce as their former manager Postecoglou seemingly remains unconvinced.
Nat Phillips has now joined Celtic from Liverpool on loan, but they may keep tabs on Dier for a potential permanent move in 2024.
